The end of an era...

Our time at the now legendary 470 Warsaw DKE House is at its end. It will truly be missed, by all the Dekes and many more. The memories created there will not be forgotten, but will live on in infamy, wherever Alpha Tau settles next.

Many Dekes from different generations have said that when they came to 470 there was next to nothing except the will to succeed and prosper which lives in the heart of every brother in Delta Kappa Epsilon. However this is not to say that there were not contributions along the way. 470 has endured some major setbacks, and managed to make it this far, and after spending a day collecting memorabilia and records from the house, these contributions become more evident than ever.

Over two decades have passed since Alpha Tau adopted 470 Warsaw as their new chapter house, and the efforts undertaken in this tumultuous period of Alpha Tau should inspire us now. We enter into a similar period now, which should be regarded less as an ending and more as a chance for starting anew.

Twenty years ago, the active and alumni of Alpha Tau sought to solidfy the chapter for years to come, and recapping the twenty years since - it is to say the very least that they succeeded. We, as Alpha Tau Dekes - active and alumni, have a responsibility to the memory of those who have gone before us, to the efforts made by Dekes in past years, to the one hundred and sixty two years of brotherhood, we have a responsibility to succeed as Alpha Tau did twenty years ago.

Price J Montague, Stewart Martin, John Tryon, the list goes on. Hundreds of men have passed through Alpha Tau's active ranks and become the alumni we look to for guidance and wisdom. These men have contributed to the fraternity selflessly, and it would be a shame to regard this period upon which we now enter as anything but the greatest of opportunities. We have the opportunity to create, to build the foundation for another twenty years of Alpha Tau, for another forty, another one hundred and sixty two.

When I observe the active chapter and alumni of Alpha Tau I can see that we are more than capable of achieving everything we've dreamed of. We've accomplished more than anyone could have predicted at the outset. More than anything, taking one last look over my shoulder into history before focusing on the road ahead, I can only say that I am incredibly proud of everyone active and alumni, and am honoured to call you my brothers.

Friends from the heart forever,

U of M Greek Council President
Delta Kappa Epsilon Active Chapter President

Year End

Well, that time is upon us again. Classes are finished, exams are well in swing and ΔKE is winding down for the year. With that in mind, there are a few things that the Active Chapter would like to remind everyone of:

The ΔKE Formal 2006 was a huge success. The turnout was great and everyone was in the highest of spirits. A huge thank you to everyone who helped organize it, everyone who was able to attend, and our dates for helping us to celebrate. For those who could not make it, the evening was filled with good friends, heartwarming speeches, well deserved awards, and the occasional bun fight.

Particularly of note was the introduction of a new award for the Active Chapter; the first annual Sean E. Mancer Award. A member of the class of 2008, Sean truly embodied the jolly good fellow. A touching speech by Greg McKenzie (AT 07) truly managed to capture Sean's personality in a few memories from his short time in DKE and the Active Chapter hopes this award will help us remember a special Brother.

Also special, was a return to giving formal toasts. Snappers to Steve Peers for helping the Active Chapter return to this tradition and to all the members who gave such well spoken toasts.

Our year end meeting is occurring Thursday, April 27 at 7:00pm. All Alumni are invited and, of course, all Actives are expected to be in attendance. For those of you who haven't heard the news, this meeting will mark the last at 470 Warsaw. As of May 1st, 2006, the house will be under new ownership and Alpha Tau will begin working towards the purchase of a new house. With the growing support of Alumni and a strong Active class, hopefully our time in-between houses will be kept to a minimum; but no doubt every ΔKE has fond memories of our paint factory. So, please, stop by, take in the meeting, and join us in a farewell to 470 Warsaw.

20,000 Hits

Well, I didn't know if we were going to break the 20,000 mark by the end of the year; but here we are! Thanks to everyone for helping me put together content for this website as well as Brother Ross Robinson for generously providing our domain name and hosting. I really hope that as we continue to grow, this page will become a central place for our members to come for memories of our past and information about our present. I will be continuing as webmaster for our page in the 2006-07 year and have planned a few new features that I'm really excited about adding. Specifically, please stay tuned for our 'members only' section that will include a permanent, up to date, and maintainable contact list for our growing chapter. Thank you again for the hugely positive response that this page has received.
