Formal Tomorrow

At long last, DKE Formal 2007 is upon us.

Our hosts at the Radisson Hotel Downtown are hosting Alpha Tau for the second year in a row, with drinks starting at 6:30pm and dinner at 7:00pm.

The remainder of the evening will be filled by awards for our hardest working chapter members, as well as the announcement and introduction of our 2007-08 Alpha Tau executive.

Many thanks to our Formal Planning committee, chaired this year by our Vice President Dylan Webb. Tomorrow their hard work will pay off in what promises to be a great night.

Looking forward to seeing everyone there!

Formal 2007 Updates

The Formal Committee is proud to announce that the Delta Kappa Epsilon year end Formal 2007 will be once again held at the Radisson Downtown on March 31st, 2007. Tickets for Active members will be handled at our regular meetings while Alumni members may contact Andrew Synyshyn for details.

Details including a schedule of the evenings events will be posted shortly.

Upcoming Meetings

As the year finds itself closing down, Alpha Tau begins a few of its most important meetings of the year.

Starting next Thursday (the 15th), ΔKE Alpha Tau will being the process of not only nominating and voting on their elected positions for 2007-08 (results will be posted later this month); but also ratifying a formal set of bylaws.

These bylaws have been written over he last twelve months by our executive council, with help from Alumni Andrew Synyshyn, ΦA 01, and a great deal of input from various Alpha Tau Alumni. Though the final details will be discussed and voted on in upcoming meetings; early drafts of these bylaws are based on versions from other Canadian and American chapters, with specific changes to make them 'Manitoba-friendly'. It should be noted that many of the rules outlined by these bylaws are ones that Alpha Tau has been unofficially(or at least informally) following for at least the past few years. Even still, the Active Chapter of DKE believes this is a critical step towards rebuilding Alpha Tau, and these bylaws will aid greatly in the future running of our chapter.

Any Alumni member interested in the contents of these bylaws is invited to contact any member of the Alpha Tau Active chapter executive.

Pledge Period Thanks

Well, with the induction of five new members to Alpha Tau, we come to the close of our 2006-07 Pledge Period. As always, this time of the year was filled with great fun and memories; but it came on the shoulders of some hard working DKEs. This year represented a unique challenge as it was the first year in recent memory that Pledging had been run without the aid of a DKE House. None the less, the Active and Alumni of Alpha Tau succeeded and there are a few special members that deserve recognition.

From the Alumni:

    • Andrew Synyshyn,

    • and Steve Peers; for their help in Pledge Education.

    • Ross Robinson,

    • Tom Sidebottom,

    • Orest Sedun,

    • and John Hare; for donating venues during Pledging.

    • Colin Morrison,

    • and Rick Frost; for their hard work in ensuring a memorable Pledge Period.

Our esteemed guests from out of town:

  • Cam McPhail of Phi Alpha,

  • and Andy Bouchier of Delta Phi

From the Actives:

    • Leo Narynskyyi,

    • Steve Chamaa,

    • and Mike Sorensen; for donating venues during Pledging.

    • Leo Narynskyyi,

    • Alain Fourcade,

    • Steve Synyshyn,

    • Adam Slater,

    • Theo McPherson,

    • and Mike Hildahl; for embodying everything that makes a good Neophyte class.

    • Greg Taylor our President,

    • and Dylan Webb our Vice President; for ensuring the Active chapter ran smoothly during Pledge.

    • And last, but certainly not least,

    • Steve Pratt for running one of the smoothest Pledge Periods in recent memory under difficult circumstances

Welcome New Members!

Huge congratulations and snappers are in order for our five newest members.
They are ( in no particular order ;) )

  1. Les Taylor

  2. Craig Murray

  3. Anders Webb

  4. Matt Hlynsky

  5. Johnny Spacek

Expect the members page to be updated soon with new profiles.

Gerald R. Ford, Omicron '35

From DKE International

December 27, 2006

To the Brotherhood:

I am sorry to report that Gerald R. Ford, Omicron '35, Honorary Chairman of the Rampant Lion Foundation is no longer with us. My experience in knowing Brother Jerry for some 32 years is that he truly exemplified the open motto of DKE "Friends from the heart, forever."

President Ford was always proud of his association with DKE. He would happily write motivational materials for the pledges, wrote the dedication for the 150 Year Illustrated History, and on a personal note, when my wife Susan died of cancer nearly 5 years ago, his hand-written personal note was one of the first and most heartfelt condolences that I received.

The fraternal bond meant a great deal to him. I had the pleasure of hearing him reminisce about his days on the dishwashing crew at the Ann Arbor DKE house when he needed a job to pay his house bill. His invitation to initiation ceremonies hangs proudly on the wall of his Grand Rapids, Museum.

Jerry Ford always had time for Delta Kappa Epsilon, and the world and we have lost a friend and a brother who filled a critical role for the United States, and who was always proud of his association with DKE.

In one of life's ironies, I must report that I received President Ford's check for his annual dues two weeks ago making him one of the first responders to our annual dues appeal. That an individual who had experienced in life what Brother Ford experienced would take time to support his fraternity to the very end says it all.

We are planning to name and fund an endowment in the Foundation to his memory and in his honor. Details will be available early in the New Year.

In the bonds,

David K. Easlick, Jr.
Executive Director
Delta Kappa Epsilon
President
Rampant Lion Foundation

Holiday Dinner

The DKE Alumni Holiday Dinner is being held again on Thursday, December 14th at the Round Table, so mark your calendars!

Last year the event turned out really well for all those who came, and I know that most of the Actives and Alumni that attended are looking forward to it again this year, so I hope to see you all out. There will be more details to follow (re: time, menu & cost).

Also, as if prime rib, beverages, and good friends weren't enough enticements, there are some updates and plans regarding the NEW DKE CHAPTER HOUSE which will be unveiled at the Holiday Dinner!

Back in business

Hello again,
Just a quick note from your friendly neighbourhood webmaster to appologize for the lack of updates. We were in the process of moving servers, but everything seems to be back up and running. Stay tuned for all the news and pictures that we've got backlogged.
